NIA to establish permanent regional, district offices for Ghana Card – Ken Attafuah

Prof. Ken Attafuah Chief Executive of the National Identification Authority (NIA) says his outfit will establish permanent regional and district offices for the Ghana Card registration.

This he says will enable those who could not register for the Ghana Card during the mass registration and the ongoing mop-up exercise to do so.

Mr. Attafuah who was on the Joy Super Morning Show today August 26, 2020, says this has become necessary to allow all participate.

“After this mop-up if you still haven’t done the Ghana Card, you will still have a chance. We are going to establish permanent regional and district officers. So every region and district will have an NIA office. It will be the fucntion of the office to register Ghanaians who were not covered”. It will be the duty of the officers to go into the community and register people and still maintain a presence at the office.

According to the Authority, its target is to capture 80 percent of all registrable population in the country.

Since the Ghana Card exercise begun, there have been several reports of some staff capitalising on the desperation of individuals to get their cards, by extorting money and also accepting bribes to fasten the processes for them.

The NIA commenced the mass Ghana Card registration exercise in 2019.

The Ghana Card is a national identity card that is issued by the Ghanaian authorities to Ghanaian citizens – both resident and non-resident, and legally and permanently resident foreign nationals. It is proof of identity, citizenship and residence of the holder.
