An advisor to former President John Mahama, Daniel Batidam has called on government to have a second look at the Asset Declaration Act and laws because it’s current state is nothing but a joke. The anti-corruption advisor explained that, the main purpose for which one has to declare their asset is to ensure transparency in terms of whatever they own before assuming office but in Ghana, asset declaration is done in secrecy to the extent that no one can cross check the Asset declaration forms of public officers.
According to r Batidam, the process one as to go through to declare their assets is complex, cumbersome and looks virtually impossible.
In an interview on Accra based Joy FM, Mr.Batidam urged that we take a second look at the laws on assets declaration so that institutions like CHRAJ can have the mandate to verify the asset declaration by a public officer.
The former Advisor to former president Mahama said this move is important if we are to win the fight against corruption in the Public sector.
