Video: Forestry Commission allegedly burns 8 houses in Ananekrom

Salt 95.9 FM can confirm that 8 houses have been burnt in Ananekrom in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to our reports the Kumawu Forestry Commission accompanied by some military men yesterday set the houses ablaze leading to loss of properties worth millions in the area.

Affected residents who spoke to our reporters said they were at their farms when the incident happened.

Mr. Adjei, a victim, told our reporters his 5 bedroom house as affected. Mr. Sammy also a victim claims his poultry farm structure worth Ghc 7500 was also destroyed.

Some of the affected residents alleged the action was taken under the command of Dr. Edward Asadu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asadu Royals company who owns a concession at the same area.

Responding to allegations of wrong doing on Anopa Bosuo on Salt 95.9 FM, Mr Edward Asadu dismissed claims that he has a hand in the incident. He admitted that it is true he owns a concession of forest at compactment 149 where the incident happened but however insisted he had no hand in the incident.

He stressed that the residents are encroaching a land which belongs to the Forestry Commission and this property is not for individuals but for the government.

Mr. Asadu further explained that several warnings have been sent to the residents to vacate the area as some of them are cutting down trees for charcoal making. He stated that forestry lands are for farming not building houses.

Further speaking he has stated that the victims should report to the police for any identifiable person who is involved in act be put before court.
