Residents of Kpetoe in the Volta Region have clashed with police in the area following the arrest of some 14 persons believed to have entered the country illegally.
According to police, the 14 entered Ghana illegally from Togo and attempted to register in the Electoral Commission’s ongoing voters registration exercise.
The residents who believed the actions of the police were not justified stormed the police station demanding the release of the suspects.
Reacting to this, Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Bedzrah said they will be ready for war if that is what the NPP wants to bring to the Volta Region.
“This is our region NPP has no role in this region and I want to sound this warning once again if NPP wants to bring war between NDC and NPP in the Volta Region we are ready for them.”
Government has indicated that security personnel have been deployed nationwide to border towns to enforce the closure of our borders and to prevent further importation of COVID-19 cases.
Residents in these areas have however complained about how intimidating the presence of the military and other security officials are.
The NDC has also accused the government of trying to intimidate the people of the Volta Region in the ongoing voters registration exercise but a response from the government said the deployment is only to enforce the border closure to stem the spread of Covid-19
