President Akufo-Addo says the government will give a befitting funeral to Ghana’s former president Jerry John Rawlings, who died Thursday, November 12 2020.
The President made this known in a statement before meeting with the late President’s family where he gave same assurance.
President Akufo-Addo said the government will work closely with family on it.
“Government will work closely with the family of President Rawlings on the arrangements for a fitting State Funeral for the late President, and will keep the nation informed accordingly.”
Meanwhile, The two leading political parties contesting in the upcoming general elections have all suspended their campaigns.
President Akufo-Addo declared seven days of mourning for the late former President.
He also announced that flags should fly at half-mast beginning Friday, November 13, 2020.
About Rawlings’ death
Former President, Jerry John Rawlings passed on at 10am Thursday, November 12, 2020.
He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at the age of 73.
