Police arrest 14 persons in Somanya for organising ‘Dipo’ rites

14 persons have been arrested by the Police in Somanya for flouting the ban on social gatherings implemented by government to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

According to the Somanya Police command, The 14 had gathered in a house to perform puberty rites, known as Dipo, despite the ban on all forms of gatherings.

They have since been charged and granted bail. They are to appear before the Somanya District Magistrate Court on Monday, May 4, 2020.

It will be recalled that President Akufo-Addo in March announced a ban on all public gatherings to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile while several others have been arrested in other parts of the country for flouting the laws.

Four royals in the Akuapem traditional area were nabbed for flouting the ban on mass gatherings. 40 others in Obuaai were also remanded for defying the ban.
