Photos: 16 dead in gory accident on Accra-Kumasi highway

Sixteen persons have been reported dead in an accident on the Akyem-Asafo stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway in the early hours of Friday, February 26.

Several others are said to have sustained injuries in the accident involving two Kia Grandbird buses. They were sent to the Suhum Government Hospital and the Akyem Asafo Health Centre for treatment.

The drivers of the two vehicles are said to been among the deceased.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a Kia Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5629-18, which was heading towards Kumasi, on reaching the Akyem-Asafo junction stretch, tried to overtake another vehicle.

It however collided with the Kia Grandbird bus with registration number GE 5510-15.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
