Parliament to vet Chief Justice nominee Gertrude Torkornoo today

Chief Justice nominee Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo is set to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament today, May 26, to undergo the vetting process.

In April, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for the position. The President explained that her nomination aimed to prevent any gap that could arise after the retirement of Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, who retired on Wednesday, May 24.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, a native of Winneba in the Central Region, will become Ghana’s third female Chief Justice if her nomination is approved. Justices Georgina Theodora Wood and Sophia Akuffo have previously held this esteemed position.

President Akufo-Addo had earlier urged the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to expedite the approval process for Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as the Chief Justice.
