Elections are currently underway in Asante Akim North constituency in the Ashanti Region despite reports that some 145 delegates had secured an injunction to stop the elections from happening.
According to the constituency Secretary, William Aboagye, the party’s office in the constituency has not been served with any suit preventing them from conducting the elections.
He added the constituency office has also not received any directive from the National body preventing them from moving forward with the elections.
“The Constituency office has not received any letter directing that we do not conduct the elections neither have received any information from the National body of the party. So we are conducting a legitimate election in Asante Akim North” – He told Prof Sam on Salt 95.9 FM
Mr William Aboagye said as part of earlier plans, the EC was supposed to conduct the elections in the constituency but up until now, they had not heard anything from the EC so they have decided to move on with the elections.
According to him, the constituency office received the electoral materials from the EC yesterday so the party is conducting its own elections in the constituency under the supervision of the the Ashanti Regional wing of the NPP.
Ashanti Regional Deputy Organizer and Coordinator for the Asante-Akim North Constituency elections, Kwaku Attah Sarpong confirmed that the elections are underway.
According to him, the national office had made every material needed for the elections available so there is no reason why the election should not be organised.
