NDC’s promise of paying players Ghc1,500 will reduce player exodus – Manomey

Dreams Football Club attacker, Abel Manomey, is in full hopes that Ghana’s biggest opposition political party, NDC’s policy of paying each Ghana Premier League player Ghc 1,500 as minimum wage will help minimize player exodus.

According to Abel Manomey in an interview with Connect FM, the days of players playing for passion alone is over and now they play with the aim of making money to cater for their families in the end.

He said, “Local players don’t play for just passion anymore but rather for money.

“In Nigeria, it is the federal government that pays the players; they pay them a minimum wage of 600 dollars, that is a little over Ghc 3,000. So if you look at what the NDC wants to introduce, that will be like 252 dollars as a minimum wage and I am in support of it and hope they will implement it when they win. It is a good step, the players have to get money there for their future and with the policy, each player will get something as a pension pay when he retires, so I think it is a good approach but it also depends if they will win power to come and implement the policy”

“Just last week, three players moved from Ghana to Albania; Derek Sasraku who is a free agent now and two players from Great Olympics”.

The attacker commended both the NPP and the NDC for their support for the local league and urged them to do more to help in the development of the game.

“The current Government supported AshantiGold Sporting Club and Asante Kotoko in their African campaign so that they can perform. They are paying the female footballers through the YEA Program”.

“If the NDC win and pay 1,500 cedis as a minimum wage, it will help a lot. I can say for a fact that salaries of some GPL layers ranges from 250 cedis to 800 cedis, because they brought most of them from lower divisions. The policy is good and will help develop Football in the country as we always say” Abel Manomey said in the interview.
