One million trees to be planted in the Ashanti Region – Deputy CEO of Forestry Commission

One million trees are expected to be planted in the Ashanti Region as part of the Green Ghana Project, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission, Mrs Martha Kwayie has said.

The Deputy CEO said this today when she paid a courtesy call to the Agogo manhene Nana Akuoko Sarpong to again inform and seek his blessing to plant 15,000 trees in the Asante Akyem enclave.

The tree planting exercise is part of the Green Ghana Project which seeks plant more trees to help improve climate conditions in the country.

Mrs Kwayie was accompanied by the Deputy Director of Operations for Eastern, Ashanti and Bono region, Mr. William Baah, Ashanti Regional Forest services Manager of the Commission Mr Augustine Gyedu, District Manager Mr. Anim Brew and Deputy District Manager Mr. Gideon Wollie to present their purpose to the paramount chief of the Agogo traditional area.

Speaking to the contingent, the Omanhene expressed extreme joy towards the Green Ghana Project and offered them his support.

Nana Akuoko Sarpong commended them for the project and further charged them to make the country greener than they met it.

The Omanhene in his interaction with the entourage said he has been an ardent supporter of tree planting for a very long time. He therefore urged them provide seedlings to all come June 11th so that all Ghanaians can participate in the exercise.

Nana added that he will hold a durbar to inform all indigenes of Agogo about the project.

The Green Ghana Project will plant over 5 million trees in one day with Ashanti Region having a whooping 1 million of that number and Agogo having 15,000 of that 1 million the leader of the contingent said.

He revealed that some churches have requested for over 100,000 seedlings to plant on the 11th of June.

She further called out to Ghanaians to participate in the exercise to help the current climate condition.
