One student is reported to have sustained injuries after having a run-in with security officers at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Saturday.
School authorities revealed 11 others have been arrested engaging in what is described as ‘morale’ activities with some alumni on campus.
In an interview on Accra based Joy FM, the public relations officer for KNUST, Kwame Yeboah said the University has placed a ban on ‘morale’ activities.
When the policy of having female students in the all-male halls begun, the school authorities felt that the ‘morale’ activities, which involves singing in groups while moving about and doing other things could disturb the peace on campus,” he explained.
The PRO added, “usually when they have these activities it causes problems at the school.”
According to him, despite the ban the students and the alumni went ahead to engage in such activities and consequently blocked the entrances to the school preventing students from entering the halls.
A security man did this to a student.
How can we remain quiet?
I don’t know what the student did wrong and that is even irrelevant.
Security personnel? What right do you have to do this to students?

“The security at the school tried to stop the students but these students started to throw stones at the security officers,” Mr. Yeboah said.
The run-in with the security, he said, led to the arrest of the 11 students by security officers who were then handed over to the police.
Here is a statement from the Student Representative Council
The injured student is currently receiving treatment and the process is ongoing to grant the arrested students bail the PRO revealed.
