Gov’t is inflating number of COVID-19 cases – Presidential Candidate

The Presidential Candidate for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has alleged that government is inflating the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Despite admitting the existence of the COVID-19 virus in the country, the Pastor said it is impossible to believe the number of infections have reached that high.
Speaking to Prof. Sam on Anopa Bosuo on Salt 95.9 FM, the Pastor said the case definition used for determining positive cases in Ghana is wrong, alleging anyone with high temperature and other underlying disease is classified as having the virus.
“All our health officials are doing is counting persons with high temperature, Asthma, Diabetes and other underlying diseases as positive ” – he said
Osofo Kyiri Abosom said the severity of cases in Europe and other parts of the world should tell us the number of cases have not reached that high especially because there has not been any visual evidence to support what government is saying.
According to him, in Europe and other parts of the world, persons with the virus are seen on TV and other media platforms receiving treatment with some on ventilators but that is not the same in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said his Church will remain closed despite President Akufo-Addo easing restrictions imposed on religious activities in his address to the nation on Sunday, May 31.
The Pastor said he disagrees with the directives from the President for churches to reopen but with a congregation of not more than 100.
He added he cannot comply with such directives and has therefore decided to keep his church closed until restrictions are eased more.
Ghana’s case count for the novel Coronavirus now stands at 8, 297 with 2,986 recoveries and 38 deaths.
