Special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has incurred the wrath of Ghanaians after the latter questioned the authenticity of recovered COVID-19 patients in the country.
Ghana yesterday, May 15, saw its highest single-day recovery of COVID-19 patients when the Ghana Health Service announced the recovery of 790 persons bringing the total to 1,460.
The Ghana Health Service has made it known on several occasions that before a person is declared free of COVID-19, two negative tests are carried out to ascertain if the infected person is completely healed of the virus.
However, the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients still surprises some individuals as Mahama’s aide took to social media to question the authenticity of the recovered patients.
According to Joyce Mogtari, she finds it difficult to believe more people have been healed of the virus calling for a probe to authenticate the recoveries.
She posted, “How the hell did 790 more people recover overnight!! We need to put these numbers to strict proof!!.
Her comment angered social media users who shamed and hurled insults at her for making unsavory comments and politicizing the issue.
While others expressed disappointment over her comment, some told her to go to the isolation centres and check for herself. Others also questioned what the NDC COVID-19 team is doing to combat the virus.
One social media user said “You said there was no corona but government only wants to spend $100m. Then you said the government instituted lockdown because they want to rig election. Then you said the numbers are low, the government is hiding figures. Now you say you don’t understand why people are recovering.”
