ECG issues directive on what prepaid customers must do to enjoy electricity relief

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has charged its prepaid customers to either swipe or insert their cards into their meters before they make a new purchase.

According to the power distributor, compliance with this directive will ensure they gather accurate data to smoothly implement government’s electricity relief.

Government as part of interventions in minimizing the financial burden on Ghanaians following the COVID-19 outbreak announced full absorption of electricity bill for life line customers and 50% absorption for domestic and commercial users.

In a press statement by the Electricity Company, they stated Ghanaians will begin to enjoy the reduction in their electricity tariffs by the end of April and further reminded its customers/stakeholders of how the relief policy will be implemented.

Lifeline customers shall have 100 percent relief of their consumption for the months of April, May, and June 2020.
All other customers shall receive 50 percent of their March 2020 consumption for the months of April, May, and June 2020.
April benefits will be realised in May, May benefits in June, and June benefits in July.

The statement further advised customers who have challenges with the GoG COVID-19 electricity relief to visit their district offices to report those issues.
