The patronage of stage plays has seen a significant improvement from almost empty auditoriums to fully filled auditoriums of expectant viewers.
For many who have followed the industry, they would realize a paradigm shift in every aspect of live stage shows from branding, casting, costuming to the event itself.
This change which has been well embraced by Ghanaians was started by someone.
Actor and Comedian, Clemento Suarez believes veteran Ghanaian playwright and author, Uncle Ebo Whyte is responsible for the growth in the industry.
According to him, Stage plays by Ebo whyte were the only shows being staged at the national theatre prior to 2011 because very few people attended such shows.
He believes Ghanaians fell in love again with stage plays because of Uncle Ebo Whyte’s plays.
Speaking to Akua Sika on Salt 95.9 FM, Clemento Suarez said the love for stage plays faded out with the introduction of movies.
‘Ebo Whyte revived live stage performance after movies took over for a period of time. ‘
He disclosed that about ten different production groups now stage plays every year at the national theatre.
‘There are about 10 different production houses that stage shows every year at the national theatre and all these shows are crowd-pullers.‘
He believes this milestone could not be achieved had it not been for Uncle Ebo Whyte because he brought back the love for what already existed as ‘concert party’.
When asked about how much he charges when approached for a role in a play or movie, the actor said he charges 5000 cedis. According to him, he does other things like Emceeing that also brings in money.
Effect of Corona virus on the industry.

He explained most of his shows have had to be put on hold till things get back to normal.
He urged the public to comply with all safety protocols outlined by health experts so that more people do not contract the virus.
