Accra Technical University has announced that a national service personnel has tested positive for the novel coronavirus on its campus.
According to a statement from the school, The case was recorded on Monday, June 22, 2020; exactly a week after tertiary institutions across the country reopened for final year students as part of the phased easing of COVID-19 induced restrictions by President Akufo-Addo.
Management in its statement indicated that the personnel reported to a medical facility in her neighbourhood after experiencing symptoms of the virus. The statement added that the personnel is currently in isolation and responding to treatment.
Six other persons believed to have come into contact with her have had their samples taken and awaiting test results.
“The contacts have been asked to self-isolate while waiting for the results of the test. The University Medical Team and the safety and health committee are however in touch with the patient and contacts to provide the needed medical and psychological support.”
The school added it will disinfect its campus while contact tracing continues.
“Members of the University Community are entreated to remain calm while adhering strictly to the published personal protection etiquettes”, the statement from the university advised.
