Coronavirus: Ghana to open borders for final year foreign students to return – Information Minister
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has disclosed government after consultations have decided to open Ghana’s borders to allow final year foreign students return to the country ahead of the reopening of schools.
“Final year students will be allowed in, arrangements are being done with the Ministry of Education. You know schools are closed except for final year students. So for final year foreign or international students, my understanding is that the Education Ministry has said that they can engage with the various school authorities and some arrangements can be made for them.”
“So for final year international students, that arrangement can be made through the specific institutions in collaboration with the ministry in charge of education,” Oppong Nkrumah said on GTV’s #AskTheInfoMinistry programme on Tuesday.
Easing of Restrictions
President Akufo-Addo in his 10th address to the nation on Sunday, May 31, eased a few of the restrictions government imposed on the citizenry in an effort to combat the spread of the virus.
“From Monday 15th June the decision has been taken after engagement with teacher unions whose cooperation I salute to reopen schools and Universities to allow for final year students, Junior High, Senior High and University students to resumes classes ahead of the conduct of their respective exit examinations. Indeed final year University students are to report on their university campuses on 15th June, final year SHS 3 students together with SHS 2 gold track students on 22nd June and final year Junior High School on 29th June”
The President explained that the decision was taken after engagement with the teacher unions in the country.
University final year students will go back to school on June 15, SHS will do same on June 22 and JHS will resume classes on June 29.
