Asante Akyem: ECG blames power cuts on overload of transformers

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Mr Erasmus Baidoo has blamed the constant power cuts to the Ashanti Akyem enclave on the overload of transformers that serve the area.

Mr Baidoo speaking to Samuel Owiredu Acheampong, host of Salt FM’s Anopa Bosuo indicated that, the distribution of electricity in the Ashanti Akyem enclave thus the North, south and central has become a major problem due to the demand.

“All of Asante Akyem has one source of power which is situated between konongo and Odumase. There is a lot of demand now and this causes an overload”, he said on Salt FM.

He attributed the power overload to some companies which include the Rydal steel which uses high voltage from the distribution lines.

Raining season and Dumsor

Speaking on why there are usually power outages during the raining season, Mr Baidoo said distribution becomes difficult because most of the transmission lines passes through the forest reserves.

He assured residents of the company’s commitment to provide customers with uninterrupted power supply hinting the company will soon complete the construction of substations in Agogo and Kumawu which will boost electricity supply within the Asante Akyem enclave.

Mr Baidoo has advised customers to pay their bills and issued cautions to illegal connections as prosecution awaits offenders.
