Coronavirus: Bono East Region records first case – Dr Badu Sarkodie

Up until this morning, only 14 out of the 16 regions in the country had confirmed positive cases of the novel Coronavirus.

But in a press briefing by the Ministry of Information, the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Badu Sarkodie has disclosed the Bono East Region has confirmed their first COVID-19 case making it the 15th region with a confirmed case.

Dr Sarkodie said at the briefing on May 28, 2020, that they have received a report of the confirmed case in the Region but are yet to verify to know which district it is.

This new development means the Ahafo Region is the only region without a confirmed case.

“Just a few minutes ago we have had information that Bono East has recorded a case, we will follow up to know exactly which district this occurred.”

The Bono East region of Ghana is a new region carved out of the existing Brong Ahafo region. The capital of the new region is Techiman.

Meanwhile, the GHS reported 186 new confirmed cases in their last update on Wednesday, May 27 taking the total case count to 7,303 with an increase in recoveries to 2,412.
