Military, other security personnel deployed today to ensure adherence to COVID-19 protocols

Personnel from the Ghana Armed Force, Ghana Police Service and the Environmental task force will this morning be on the streets of Accra to enforce the Covid-19 safety protocols.
The team will be expected to enforce the wearing of face mask, social distancing among other protocols.

Mayor of Accra Adjei Sowah said the team have been on the field educating for the past two weeks and it’s time to enforce the protocols.

“The combined effort of the Military, the police and then our task force with the environmental officers have been on the field for the past two weeks educating. We are stepping up with enforcement from Monday if you step into a public area without wearing a face mask and that will be very key and we intend to make sure people comply.”

He believes that the presence of the team will in itself call for compliance.

“…the security forces are on the field in its self calls for compliance.”

Adjei Sowah added that aside enforcing the protocols the combined team will also enforce the sanitation by-laws.

“They are enforcing the protocols and they are also enforcing sanitation by-laws as well so people should also stop littering the streets of Accra…”

Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, on Sunday urged the public to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 preventive measures despite the high number of recoveries.

“We caution the general public not to use the improving recovery numbers and the declining active case numbers as a reason to be reckless,” he said.

He said if people failed to adhere to the safety protocols, all the successes chalked by the country in halting the spread of COVID-19 would be a wasted effort.

The Information Minister said this at a press briefing on the current state of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

He said government would continue to intensify measures to prevent further spread of the pandemic, such as the supply of personal protective equipment to all places where they are needed, the identification and testing of suspected cases, among others.
