Coronavirus: Accra Metropolitan Assembly begins data collection on churches, mosques

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has begun collecting data on religious bodies within its jurisdiction.

The data which will identify the number of churches and mosques within the metropolis captures details of the number of members, location, contact person, among others.

President Akufo-Addo in his 10th address to the nation on Sunday May 31 eased some restrictions that were imposed on religious activities earlier in March.

The President directed that religious gatherings must not exceed one hour with not more than 100 congregants.

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah in a in an interview with Accra based Citi FM said the collection of data will help the assembly enforce the directives. He added the data collection will assist in contact tracing should there be a confirmed case in a church or mosque.
