The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied reports that its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
According to the Ashanti Regional branch of the Party, the reports are false.
Footage widely shared on social media suggested that Wontumi had been picked up for allegedly printing ballot papers at an undisclosed location in Kumasi ahead of Monday’s polls.
But in a statement issued on Saturday, the Special Aide to the Regional Chairman, Andy Owusu said: “This is once again another ploy by the NDC to divert attention from their imminent defeat on Monday.”
“The said incident occurred in 2016 and was discovered through intelligence from the Regional Chairman”, the statement clarified.
“We entreat everyone to treat the said video with all the contempt it deserves as it is an old one”, the statement further noted.
Dailymailgh.com’s checks on Saturday, December 5 has however confirmed that the Regional Chairman was at the Ejura/Sekyedumase Constituency campaigning for the NPP.
