Black Stars sinks in Fifa rankings, now 52nd

Ghana reoccupied 52nd position – same as they did exactly a year ago – in the October 2018 Fifa rankings released on Thursday.
The latest slump – one place from the September rating – can be attributed to the Black Stars’ inactivity during the one-month space. Ghana were scheduled to play Sierra Leone in back-to-back 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games but the fixtures were called off due to Fifa’s decision to suspend the latter over government interference.
Ghana moved from 51st position but maintained its 1407 accumulated points.
The Black Stars however remain 7th in the Africa rankings. They will hope for favourable results when they return to action in November away to Ethiopia in the 2019 Afcon qualifying.
Madagascar – who earlier this month qualified for their first African Nations Cup finals – climbed into the top 100 for the first time since 2002. They were ranked 100th.
Tunisia, 22nd, are still the highest ranked African team.
