The bank of Ghana has urged the public to desist from panic withdrawal in the wake of the Corona Virus pandemic.
Ghana has recorded six cases since the first two were announced on 12th March, 2020.
“The General Public is strongly advised to refrain from panic withdrawals. Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions, shall remain open to offer services to Customers.” – the statement read
The Central Bank in a statement on March 16th disclosed that it will will “continue to assess the possible impact of the Pandemic on the domestic economy and is taking the necessary steps to mitigate its impact, to ensure financial and economic stability.”
The Bank of Ghana also admonished local banks to comply with directives of the Ministry of health to ensure the safety of their staffs and customers.
The statement also charged the banks to ensure their electronic platforms are fully functional and ATMs do not run out of cash.
