The Asante Akim North District Assembly has donated some food items to the physically challenged in the District.
The donation was made to the physically challenged through the District’s Social Welfare Executives.
Some of the items donated were bags of rice, boxes of sardines, cartons of oil.
The Presentation was made on behalf of the Assembly by the District Chief Executive, Francis Oti Boateng who said the donation was done to support the physically challenged during this COVID-19 period.
Receiving the items on behalf of the physically challenged, Mr. Emmanuel Adama said they were appreciative of the gesture by the Assembly.
According to the DCE, this is not the first time the assembly is donating to the physically challenged in the district. He said the assembly has previously donated other items that were intended to help the physically challenged generate income on their own.
Some of the items he said the Assembly had donated in the past included Fridges, Block making machines, sewing machines etc.
Hon Oti Boateng said the Assembly decided some years ago that the only way to empower the physically challenged is to support them with equipments that would aid them in generating income to support themselves.
He said about 90% of the disabled in the district had received such support from the assembly and pledged the assembly will ensure that each of the physically challenged will receive an income generating support.
‘Out of the 800 physically challenged we have in the district, about 700 of them have received support from us and we are looking forward to making sure the remaining 100 get their support as well” – he told Salt FM’s Asonaba Kofi Osei
