Arrest NPP delegates for breaching social distancing protocols – NDC to Security Agencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling on authorities to deal with delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for flouting the social distancing protocols.

The party in a press conference chaired by its Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi said delegates of the NPP violated the protocols in the full glare of the police and yet no arrest was made.

They say this will disrupt the fight against COVID-19 and immediately called for the release of some pastors and their church members who were arrested for breaking some COVID-19 measures.

Sammy Gyamfi says this action and pretence from the government is not fair on many who have been prosected for such offences.

“We are saying that this is not fair and this is not justifiable, people have gone to jail for this we believe that the media and all of us must let President Akufo-Addo know that this is not right and they must be punished too, if not we have no business prosecuting others, we must as well release the pastors and the innocent citizens who have been prosecuted for the same offence”.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ended its parliamentary primaries on June 20, 2020.

The election saw delegates and supporters jubilating when their candidates won, but flouted the social distancing protocol massively.

This many have condemned as they say could lead to a spike in Ghana’s COVID-19 cases.

Currently Ghana’s COVID-19 case count stands at 14, 154 with some 10, 473 people recovering.

The death toll however stands at 85 as at June 22, 2020.
